Amazon.com Product Description
Bring a true cinema experience into your own living room with the 50-inch Sony KDFE50A10 rear-projection LCD TV, which features a new design with a thin dark black bezel, a compact body and invisible speakers located at the bottom of the set. It features built-in analog (NTSC) and HDTV digital (ATSC) tuners. (Digital high-definition programming is available via terrestrial signals (over-the-air) or unscrambled cable signals provided by your cable company.) It's also Digital Cable Ready, so you can enjoy digital cable without an additional box or remote.

The KDFE50A10 uses the 3LCD video projection system, which combines three LCD panels to produce an image for a brighter picture in well-lit rooms, intensly vibrant natural colors, and spectacular HD performance. It's driven by Sony's WEGA Engine System, which delivers superb picture quality from any video source by minimizing the signal deterioration caused by digital-to-analog conversion and stabilizing the signal processing.

The Digital Reality Creation line doubling feature replaces the signal's NTSC waveform with the HD equivalent, while doubling the number of vertical and horizontal lines. This results in four times the density for quality sources, such as DVD, satellite and digital camcorders. The CineMotion technology feature uses reverse 3-2 pull down technology, providing smoother picture movement when playing back movies or other video sources on film. Other features include the Steady Sound audio equalizer (for consistent output between programs and commercials), parental controls (V-chip), Favorites channel list, front AV Inputs for connecting camcorders or video game consoles, and an HDMI connection for uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface between the TV and any HDMI-equipped audio/video component.

It has a 24-watt stereo audio system (two 12-watt speakers) and TruSurround XT compatibility. It features the following video and audio connections:

  • Composite AV In (RCA): 3 (1 front)
  • S-Video In: 1
  • RF In: 1
  • Component Video In: 3 (1 front)
  • HDMI In: 1
  • PC In (D-Sub 15-pin): 1

  $800 Optical Block Replacement - Beware!   December 21, 2008
Gary S. Sanders
I have a Sony 50" KDF-E50A10 set that is 2 1/2 years old - the optical block, like 1000's of other Sony LCD large screen Grand Wega sets, has gone bad - There was a class action suit filed against SONY for 2 models that forced them to extended warranties and replacement - many more of their late model sets that are out of warranty have this same "blotchy" color distortion problem that will cost $800+ to repair - SONY is doing nothing about them because these models weren't included in the suit settlement. Why won't SONY address this disgrace to their quality reputation? - you'll have to ask them or go online to read the complaints from SONY customers about the defective optical blocks- I suggest you review the threads before buy a SONY set

  DON'T BUY IT   November 14, 2008

I have had this model for a little under 2 years. The Optical Block has gone bad. Even though Sony has settled at least one class action law suit regarding the defective piece of equipment, they have only included specific models. This one is not included, even though the internet is loaded with people with this exact model having the same "blue haze" issue. Cost just quoted to me to fix...$1200. And, I just replaced the light bulb for another $200. Sony just keeps telling me I am out of luck. I will never buy another Sony product as long as I live.

DO NOT BUY THIS TV!!! IT WILL GO BAD WITHIN 2 YEARS!!   November 1, 2008

This television does have some great capabilities and wonderful picture... that is... until 2 years go by and it's no longer under warranty. Then the B Block goes bad. $800-1000 to fix it and Sony will not issue a recall! SEARCH KDF-E50A10 B Block on you're favorite search engine, mine is not the only one.
RESEARCH before you buy. Please.

  After 2 1/2 years -- a LEMON of a TV   September 3, 2008

This TV only has given me 30 months of loyal service. IN the past couple of weeks multicolored small square boxes have appeared in 4 lines across the center in standard resolutions and a multicolored line in HD resolutions.

Many problems have been reported on the Internet about this model line of TV, with a general nonchalance attitude on the issues from Sony.

I would avoid this TV until Sony offers free repairs -- which will not occur until the matter is heard in a court.
