Product Description
57" TheaterWide Integrated HDTV Projection TV with ATSC/QAM Tuner for receiving terrestrial and digital cable-in-the-clear signals.

Amazon.com Product Description
Toshiba's 57H94 TheaterWide series CRT-based projection television is a cutting-edge component to carry you into the world of high-definition TV. The 57-inch set displays high-definition signals, improves standard-definition sources, and receives high-definition broadcasts--you don't need an external DTV set-top box to view true 1080i programming. The set delivers stunning images from home-theater components, too, including progressive-scan DVD players, DVRs, satellite receivers, and camcorders.

Toshiba's Seine Processor provides the processing power necessary to deliver Toshiba's unique quality picture and feature set. The TV offers a 16:9 widescreen dimension, two DTVLink-enabled IEEE 1394 digital-video outputs, and an HDMI input for direct-digital connection with other high-definition sources. Its ATSC tuner pulls HD signals right out of the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming.

The 57H94's authorized CableCARD ability means the set will also receive digital cable television systems services directly from the cable operator without requiring a bulky, external cable box. You can fed the set custom programming, too: the front panel features an OmniViewer multicard flash-memory slot with a built-in JPEG photo viewer so you enjoy digital photos right off just about any type of flash-memory card (SD, SM, MS, CF, and MM).

DFine high-speed velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

And since not everything you watch will be high-definition in origin (wouldn't that be nice), CrystalScan HDSC upconverts all video signals (including 480i/p) to 1080i HD. This significantly reduces jagged-line artifacts for a smoother, more natural image. (Selectable 540p, for those who want a progressive-scan image from a progressive-scan source, is available through the onscreen menu.) CableClear DNR+ Digital Noise Reduction circuitry optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable by eliminating video noise (snow).

The set also offers TV Guide On Screen (an interactive program guide for simple, user-friendly channel navigation), PowerFocus HD CRTs, a PowerFocus HC lens system, a MegaBand super-wideband video amplifier, anti-glare TheaterShield protection, TouchFocus auto digital convergence, and AccuFocus 56-point manual convergence option.

For audio, the 57H94 offers SRS WOW, combining SRS 3D, TruBass (which boosts low-frequency perception for dramatic bass effects), and Focus (which raises the perceived sound image vertically to clarify voices) to enhance your home-theater sound. An optical digital-audio output feeds Dolby Digital surround signals to compatible AV receivers and speaker systems.

The set's TheaterNet Icon IR control system takes TheaterLink IR passthrough capability to new heights through the use of onscreen icons and virtual control bars to operate source devices such as a VCRs or DVD players--even if those components are hidden from view.

The set uses a split-cabinet design with built-in lifting handles to make shipping and positioning a lot less daunting. A 6-item illuminated A/V remote control comes equipped to handle DVD players and audio devices.

What's in the Box
TV, cabinet, remote control, batteries, IR dongle (for use with set's TheaterLink IR capability), a user's manual, and warranty information.

I've had this tv since the end of Feb 2005 and I'm happy with every cent I paid for this tv so far. The delivery worked seamlessly with the set showing up earlier than I expected and the folks removed it from the box and set it up. The picture quality is perfect. I bought an HDTV antenna from Radio Shack and get the High-Def local channels over the air (for free, obviously). Works great with the dvd player. And the speakers are so good that sometimes I have to double-check if I have the sound coming from the Bose speakers or the tv (no exaggeration here, and I love the Bose speakers). There are more than enough inputs/outputs (audio/video).

I bought this set after reading nothing but positive reviews on the web for this model. I give it a full five star rating.

I received this TV two days early; however, when it was delivered only one man was sent to deliver (this is not a one man job by any stretch of the imagination). The driver's supervisor was quick to pass the buck saying Amazon did not notify him this was a two person delivery. The driver just wanted to put the TV in my garage. After speaking a second time with his supervisor the driver was told to attempt to place the TV by himself. I would not allow this and feeling sorry for the delivery guy offered my assistance. The driver flew into a flurry of explicatives. I asked him to leave the TV on his truck and return another day with the proper personel. He insisted that this TV had to get off of his truck. At my front door, I was able to lift my side of the TV; however, the driver repeatedly dropped his side complaining "his hands were slippery". After the TV was in my foyer, I inspected it and the speakers were ripped along the bottom due to the driver dropping it and dragging it along the steps. I told him I would go no further with his assistance and called his supervisor and advised him I would not sign for the television until he sent another crew to deliver it properly. His supervisor advised me I had to sign it. I told him I would not, and if he wanted he could put the TV back on his truck; however, I would not be assisting. He had his driver take the paperwork and sit in his truck for an hour. Finally a rep from the delivery company called and apologized and said I could leave the TV where it was and they would have another crew come out the following day. I signed the paperwork stating the damage which had been done and noted that the comapny said they would have someone come out and place the TV the next day. They came out the next day and placed the TV with no problem. I emailed Amazon about the damage to the speakers. They said they would respond within 24 hours. It has now been 72 hours and no response. It would have been well worth a couple extra hundred dollars to not go through this experience. The TV works great except for the visual flaws from the delivery damage. My wife is also left with a bad taste in her mouth as this was a father's day/birthday present. Buyer beware

With a TV this nice and top of the line cables you'll start to notice all of the visual flaws in movies. At first when I started watching DVD's I was some what disappointed by a lot of the less recent (and some recent) movies because I was able to see things like the grain from the film. If a movie contains visual flaws/imperfections you'll now notice them because the picture quality on this TV is so frigg'n great.

Picture Quality:
- Excellent! With a TV whose picture quality is as good as this one you're going to want to make sure you have a very good (and new) DVD player, as well as top quality Component/HDMI cables. If you don't you'll definitely regret it. DVD players with HDMI outputs are still in their infancy, but if you can afford one I would highly suggest it. I used to think a DVD player connected via component cables were as good as it gets - until I got this TV. Since the screen is so large, and the picture quality is so high you want the highest quality cables (preferably HDMI). If you plan to use some cheap cables you bought at Radio Shack, then don't bother getting this TV.
- One annoyance I have with this TV is that the viewing angle isn't all that great in a well lit room. During the day I have to close all of the blinds in the living room to comfortably watch TV. When the room is dark the viewing angle is great, it's just when the room is bright that you might have problems.

Sound:
- The sound is excellent. I use my surround sound system for DVD's, and Toshiba's built in speakers for Cable TV. I'm able to crank the built in speakers all the way up without any loss of quality. Overall I have absolutely no complaints about the built in speakers, and thoroughly enjoy them.

Extras:
-The remote controller works fine, and has a backlight. However when the backlight is turned on it makes a very annoying 'buzzing' noise, so most of the time I leave that feature off. The flash card reader works without a problem, but it's pretty darn slow. I have a 2.1MP camera and my CompactFlash card takes a while to load onto the screen.

Conclusion:
- If you want to maximize picture quality with size and features, for a reasonable price, then get this Toshiba 57H94 TV (or a similar model) and you wont be disappointed. However, keep in mind that in order to utilize a TV as nice as this one you're definitely going to want the best cables and dvd player you can afford. It's important that you don't cheap out on those.
